Alaska vehicle claims: guidance and practical terms

Alaska’s claim-rights guide says insurers must acknowledge a claim in writing within 10 working days and normally complete the investigation within 30 working days, unless it cannot reasonably be completed with due diligence. These are insurer-handling rules, not an estimating company’s delivery promise.

For property or motor-vehicle claims, the guide requires a reasonable written explanation of the damage valuation. Its first-party total-loss guidance describes comparable-vehicle replacement or cash-settlement methods. Ask which method and supporting vehicle information were used.

The Division separately explains appraisal for disputes with your own insurer over property-loss value. Read the relevant policy and obtain advice on applicability before selecting an appraiser; submitting a repair-estimate inquiry does not invoke that process.
