Vermont vehicle claims and appraiser requirements
Check assignment eligibility in Vermont
Ask whether your requested work can be accepted. Applicable licenses, inspection requirements and lawful fulfillment must be confirmed before commissioning work. This page provides state-specific information, not confirmation that California United Appraisals is licensed or available for regulated work in this state.
Request the complete total-loss calculation
Vermont’s fair-claims regulation requires the insurer, by the date of its total-loss settlement offer, to provide a detailed calculation of the vehicle value, a copy of a relied-upon valuation report not publicly available, and written notice that the claimant can contact the Insurance Division’s Consumer Services Section to dispute the settlement. These documents give you a concrete starting point for checking options, mileage and adjustments.
Check the valuation and repair process
Vermont DFR’s vehicle-repair guide explains that most standard auto policies do not pay to repair a vehicle when repair expense exceeds its assigned cash value. It points consumers to Vermont Regulation I-79-2 for total-loss calculations. Compare the insurer’s full calculation with your vehicle records before treating a pricing-guide figure as the final payable amount.
Confirm service eligibility before ordering
Vermont DFR regulates compensated auto-damage appraisal performed on behalf of insurers, subject to specified statutory exemptions. DFR also distinguishes appraisal from investigating or negotiating a claim, which requires adjuster authority. Before accepting a Vermont assignment, confirm the precise service, who it is performed for, and the provider’s applicable authorization. Remote delivery alone does not establish an exemption. No Vermont license or exemption for this business has been verified.
Choose the service and evidence for your asset
Send unit identification, current location, damage photographs and the requested scope. Supplements need the baseline estimate and evidence for added operations; desk review needs specific questions.
Heavy trucks, trailers, agricultural or construction equipment, ATVs, boats and aircraft require asset-specific scope and fee confirmation. Auto rules do not automatically govern these assets. Estimating is not a safety, seaworthiness or airworthiness certification.
Estimating, policy appraisal and property valuation are distinct
A damage estimate does not appoint an appraisal-clause appraiser, umpire or adjuster. These roles have separate requirements. We do not decide coverage or guarantee payment.
Home and mortgage valuations require separate credentials, lender ordering and any applicable appraisal-management compliance. This page does not confirm an available real estate provider network.
